Microsoft Office was first released in 1990. The most popular product of Microsoft after Windows is this Microsoft Office, which may not be found by people who have not used it. Microsoft Office apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook are the daily companions of countless people.
Microsoft Office is changing now. The change starts with the name of the software series. The new name of Microsoft Office will be “Microsoft 365”. The change will first apply to Office apps available through Office.com, starting in November.
Then from January 2023, the built-in Office app of Windows 10 and Windows 11, Office mobile app of iOS and Android will be renamed. After the update, apps will feature new Microsoft 365 branding and a new logo. Although it looks much the same as before, the O in the new office logo looks a little different.
According to Microsoft’s FAQ page, OneDrive and Microsoft Teams, along with many other Office apps, will be brought under the same branding. Besides, Microsoft also said that Office branding will be seen for some time.
Existing Office 365 accounts will not be renamed for now. Again, Microsoft will sell Word, Excel and other office apps like Office 2021. Previously, multiple licensed versions of Office apps were available for purchase, but it remains to be seen whether this will change due to the changes to Microsoft 365.
Office is Microsoft’s latest product with “Microsoft” added to its name. Earlier, Windows’ built-in malware scanner, Windows Defender was renamed Microsoft Defender in 2019. It is expected that this change will be seen in other Microsoft products soon.
However, it can be expected that Microsoft will not rebrand popular products like Windows operating system or Xbox to Microsoft OS or Microsoft Box. Although, the name of a software suite as popular as Microsoft Office is being changed, nothing can be said by swearing!
