After films such as Lens and Thalaikoothal, director Jayaprakash is back with his next film which is a complete changeover. The film deals with a delicate and unusual situation where a family reacts to a same sex relationship.
The film brings together its five characters onto the same table – Lakshmi (Rohini) invites her daughter Sam and her love interest for lunch along with her ex-husband (Vineeth). However, Lakshmi is shocked to know that her daughter’s love interest is not the man she brings home but the woman. From there begins a series of events that start with anger, denial, discussion and finally a closure with a chance of acceptance.
As much as the film is simple and straightforward trying to be a story of discussion that takes place between 5 characters, majorly within a house, KEPU largely revolves around its situations, dialogues, bits of comedy here and there, and resolutions to a situation which we may have come across, or may have read about.
Lijomol Jose once again proves that she is a powerful performer, and she holds the film throughout along with Rohini who drives home another terrific performance with amazing control in the emotional scenes. The film largely benefits from these two performances, and also has good presence from Vineeth, Kalesh and Anusha.
Though KEPU does not have any great shakes, it is a film that keeps the ball rolling with its dialogues and scenarios, making it an important film that sensibly discusses such a topic.
